This is an interesting article debating the issue of whether premodern life was/is better than the modern.

Very interesting article. I sometimes wonder myself if life in the modern world is really that great. There is something good to say about living life simply outside of the hustle and bustle of modern civilization.
The modernization of society in the last century is believed by some to be the pinnacle of man's creating. Creating a world of interconnectivity with a global economy. Although living in the modern age does have its benefits one must wonder what the world would have been like if this current system had never been adopted. The article said that one of the major downfalls of this thought is the fact that the world would not be able to feed itself, but would the world really be this populated without the modern system? aa
Although premodern times may have seemed to be less packed with "junk" that clutters our modern times, the premodern times had enough troubles of their own. Since the human race is born with a sin nature, no time period has ever been or will be a paradise. I think that we can learn from the past about simplicity and contentment with what we have, but we shouldn't glorify any time period.
