Paul Biya: "Another President Who Won't Go"

This piece from The Economist was written in 2008 but it seems as if it was written this week or even this morning. Perhaps Biya will see that times are changing and find a way to leave before Cameroon becomes like Egypt or Tunisia. He will save all of us the trouble if he does.

Hopefully the recent events in Egypt will make Paul Biya think long and hard about his position as president. However, if he has not been particularly concerned about the desires of his people in past, I doubt that it will change now. If nothing changes on the side of the president, then it will have to be the people who bring change and perhaps Egypt will be an example to the people of Cameroon of what can be done when people stand up together.

I wonder if Egypt is setting an example and giving hope to the rest of Africa... It will be interesting to see how many other countries in Africa will start to take a bold stand against unwanted rulers. Also, I wonder how these unwanted rulers (such as Paul Biya) are going to be on the offense of how to prevent their people from rising up.
