African Union Rejects No-Fly Zone

African Union representatives have rejected the no-fly zone currently being implemented in Libya. Considering that Gaddafi is a very good friend of most, if not all, African leaders; considering that most African leaders kill their people just like Gaddafi is currently doing, one would not be surprised that the body that represents them would come out against attempts at restraining and even removing the tyrant. Considering that the current chair of the African Union is himself a tyrant, it would have been surprising if they had come out in support of attempts to remove one of their own. Crowded with some of the most notorious despots in the world, it is amazing that the body still thinks it has moral authority on this particular issue.

I was reading a BBC article on this and they were saying that Mugabe and Museveni were the most outspoken of the leaders to attack the no-fly zone. people act surprised that they would not accept this but if they just looked at the record of these leaders they would see that they do not care about human rights in their own countries so why would they care about protecting civilians in Libya?

I think that the problem here is that the african Union views might as right. In other words since they have the power whatever they decide to do is the moral choice. They view their authority as THE moral authority. these leaders do not distinguish between the right thing to do and what they want to do.

It is unbelievable the way some people are in this world. To condone such violence and killing of innocent people is terrible.
